Private schools across Punjab have urged the School Education Department to immediately release the long-delayed academic calendar, saying the continued uncertainty is disrupting planning for the new academic year.
School owners and education stakeholders said a clearly defined academic schedule is essential for managing holidays, examinations, and academic activities, particularly in a province where seasonal weather changes often lead to unexpected school closures.
They emphasized that the academic year should ensure at least 210 teaching days, warning that frequent and unplanned holidays negatively affect learning outcomes, create administrative difficulties for schools, and complicate scheduling for parents.
According to representatives of private educational institutions, the School Education Department had previously invited suggestions from stakeholders during the preparation of the academic calendar and reportedly incorporated several recommendations from private schools.
However, despite nearly a year passing, the official academic calendar has still not been issued, leading to growing frustration within the education sector.
Stakeholders noted that repeated assurances by authorities regarding the publication of a comprehensive academic schedule have yet to materialize, further increasing uncertainty for schools preparing annual plans.
Private school associations have now called on the provincial government to urgently finalize and release the academic calendar, arguing that a structured timetable is necessary to ensure stability, improve academic performance, and allow schools, teachers, and parents to plan the year effectively.
Education experts also stress that a predictable academic framework is critical for improving learning continuity and reducing disruptions in Punjab’s schooling system.
