The Sindh education department has ordered a halt to teaching activities in 6,220 school buildings declared unsafe, with students being shifted to nearby alternative schools as a precaution against monsoon-related accidents.
The department has directed all DCs across the province to identify substitute schools near the affected buildings and arrange the transfer of students without delay. Badin, Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar districts report the highest concentration of unsafe school structures, according to officials.
The closures leave thousands of children across Sindh at risk of losing access to education at their original schools.
The education department has not yet announced when repair work on the affected buildings will begin or when it is expected to be completed, leaving the timeline for the return of students to their home schools unclear.
Monsoon rains pose a heightened risk to structurally weak buildings, prompting authorities to prioritize student safety over continued use of the flagged premises during the season.
