The Punjab School Education Department has approved the appointment of two headmasters, principals, or headmistresses in every government school as part of a new plan aimed at improving the quality of education across the province.
According to the department, the appointments will be completed before the end of the summer vacations. Under the new system, each school will have one regular head and one Own Pay Scale (OPS) headmaster.
The department has also given final approval for the rationalization of teachers across primary, middle, and high schools, with the process set to begin in August.
As part of the broader education reforms, the Punjab government has also approved the outsourcing of an additional 5,550primary, middle, and high schools, and applications have been invited from interested parties.
Under the new arrangement, the OPS headmaster will oversee teaching activities, monitor student attendance, prepare reports on school performance, focus on academic outcomes, and work with teachers to improve the learning environment.
Meanwhile, the regular headmaster will remain responsible for overall school administration, supervising teachers, improving students’ academic and moral development, preparing school development plans, coordinating with education authorities, and submitting performance reports.
Rawalpindi Executive Education Officer Yasin Baloch said the appointment of two heads in each school is expected to strengthen school management, improve teaching standards, enhance student learning, and boost teachers’ performance.
