The Punjab School Education Department has announced that head teacher appointments in public schools will now be made through a written examination, marking a shift toward a more merit-based recruitment system.
The examination is being conducted today under the supervision of the Punjab Examination Commission Testing Agency, which has been tasked with ensuring transparency and standardized testing procedures across all centers.
According to the department, the move aims to strengthen meritocracy in school leadership positions and improve the overall quality of public education management in the province.
To ensure a fair and transparent process, authorities have instructed that CCTV cameras be installed at all examination centers. The School Education Department has also directed officials to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply, internet connectivity, and availability of tablets during the test.
District administrations have been asked to nominate focal persons to coordinate directly with PECTA and ensure smooth execution of the examination process. The department emphasized that all districts must extend full cooperation to guarantee an effective and transparent testing system.
An official letter issued to all CEOs of Education confirmed these directives and highlighted the importance of strict compliance with examination protocols.
Officials say the initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at improving governance in Punjab’s education sector by introducing standardized recruitment mechanisms and reducing discretionary appointments.
