Red Dead Redemption Arrives on Current-Gen Consoles & Mobile

Rockstar Games has officially announced that Red Dead Redemption and its standalone expansion, Undead Nightmare, will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS, Android, and Netflix on December 2, 2025. This marks a major expansion for the beloved Western action-adventure, opening it up to a new generation of gamers.

Since its initial 2010 launch on PS3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption has sold over 17.5 million copies. The game has consistently remained one of Rockstar’s top titles, surpassing classics like GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City. In recent years, the game was ported to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023, followed by PC in 2024, and became a huge hit on Steam in late October 2024, where it currently holds a 91% player approval rating.

Technical Enhancements for Current-Gen Players

The new versions bring a host of enhancements tailored to modern hardware. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, players can enjoy:

  • Enhanced image quality
  • HDR support
  • Up to 4K resolution
  • Smooth 60 FPS gameplay

The Nintendo Switch 2 version will also run at 60 FPS, supporting HDR, DLSS, and mouse controls, taking full advantage of the hybrid console’s unique capabilities.

Red Dead Redemption Free Upgrades & Save Transfer

Fans who already own the game on previous platforms are in for a treat. Players on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the digital backward-compatible Xbox One version can upgrade for free.

  • PS4 players can carry over save data to PS5.
  • Nintendo Switch players can continue their progress on Switch 2.
  • Undead Nightmare also receives the same upgrades as the base game.

These upgraded versions are developed in collaboration with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games. They will also be available through the “GTA+ Games Library” and “PlayStation Plus Game Catalog” starting December 2.

Mobile & Netflix Launch

For the first time, Red Dead Redemption will be available on iOS and Android devices, featuring mobile-friendly control options. Netflix members will also be able to download and play the game as part of their subscription. This ensures that even more players can experience John Marston’s epic journey and the thrilling Undead Nightmare adventure wherever they go.

With free upgrades, full single-player experiences, bonus content, and modern enhancements, December 2 is shaping up to be a big day for fans of the Western classic. Many are also hoping Rockstar will bring the same treatment to Red Dead Redemption 2 soon.
