‘Ms. Tang Yu’ is an AI-powered virtual humanoid robot appointed as the Rotating CEO of a Chinese Metverse Giant, NetDragon Websoft’s subsidiary Fujian NetDragon Websoft. Ms. Tang Yu is the first non-human entity ever appointed to an executive position and will take account of the company’s organizational and efficiency departments.
NetDragon Websoft is a Chinese company that makes applications for mobile and also operates multiplayer online games the company claims that the appointment of the AI-powered robot will help them stimulate the apps more efficiently. Dr. Dejian Liu, Chairman of NetDragon said;
“Tang Yu’s appointment highlights the Company’s “AI + management” strategy and represents a major milestone for the Company towards being a “Metaverse organization, We believe AI is the future of corporate management, and our appointment of Ms. Tang Yu represents our commitment to truly embrace the use of AI to transform the way we operate our business, and ultimately drive our future strategic growth”
The initial response from everyone is what could be predicted, “the beginning of the end is here”. Many have said that James Cameron’s epic sci-fi ‘Terminator’ has come to life, where a hostile AI called the Skynet takes over humanity. It is one of the earlier media portrayals of AI that reflected the skepticism around this technology.
On the other hand, the company claims that it is for the betterment of humanity instead of the opposite the new CEO will supposedly aim at improving speed, quality of operations, and optimizing workflows. The robot CEO will also act as a real-time data hub powered by analytical tools that will enable logical decision-making daily. The new CEO will use AI technology in the HR department and will provide a better work environment and justified incentives to the employees making their jobs easier rather than snatching them.
Dr. Dejian Liu said in this regard that;
“In addition, Tang Yu is expected to play a critical role in the development of talents and ensuring a fair and efficient workplace for all employees,”
The robot CEO will stimulate the process flow, enhance the quality of work tasks, and improve the speed of execution, the company informed. It further said that the robot will help the company make rational decision-making in daily operations and enable a more effective risk management system.
This is obviously an experimental and marketing move by the company and it has been yet successful as the company is in most of the news articles outlets at the moment. In terms of the actual efficiency of the robot is concerned, it is also most likely to be successful and it would open a whole new world for the AI industry. The AI sector is already experiencing huge growth and according to Gartner forecasting, it will reach $62 billion in 2022 alone, which is a 21.3 percent increase from last year.
