Samsung claims it has made an ‘unbreakable’ display for future smartphones

Samsung claimed that it has developed an “unbreakable” OLED screens of smartphones made from flexible plastic rather than glass.

On 26th July, Samsung announced it has developed an “unbreakable” and flexible display that may soon be used in smartphones and other gadgets. As compared to traditional smartphone displays, which are made up of glass that can be prone to cracking or shattering, Samsung claims it has made new panels with a “fortified plastic window.” The company tested the display and it survived 26 drops from 4-6 feet. This really justified the Samsung’s claim ‘unbreakable’. Samsung’s unbreakable panel continued to function normally with no damage to its front, sides or edges.

Hojung Kim, General Manager of the Samsung Communication Display Team said, “The fortified plastic window is especially suitable for portable electronic devices not only because of its unbreakable characteristics, but also because of its lightweight, transmissivity, and hardness, which are all very similar to glass.”

The Korean giant says its claims were tested and verified by Underwriters Laboratories, a company that does testing for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The panel has also been tested at extreme temperatures and proved resistant at 71-degrees Celsius (160-degrees Fahrenheit) and -32-degrees Celsius (-25.6 Fahrenheit).
