Samsung has launched three new products to its SmartThings line of connected smart home gadgets including the new $89.99 SmartThings Cam, $17.99 SmartThings Wifi Smart Plug, and a $9.99 SmartThings Smart Bulb. All three products work within the SmartThings ecosystem of Samsung.
These smart products launched by the South Korean tech giant have either the same price as compared to the main competitors in the market or lower in their respective areas. The Smart Plug and the Cam can both be used with or without the support of SmartThings hub, while the Smart Bulb utilizes a Zigbee 3.0 and depends on o the hub for connectivity. Moreover, the smart devices launched work with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung’s own Bixby voice assistants.
The SmartThings Cam offers full HD resolution videos with HDR, and IR for night vision recording. Other features include two-way audio, person detection, and a 145-degree view angle. The cam also offers 24-hour cloud storage backup at no additional charge by the company. It features a stand, in case if you want to place the camera on the shelf or to mount it to the wall. The video feed can be viewed through SmartThings mobile apps on iOS and Android devices, or through Samsung’s FamilyHub refrigerators or a Samsung TV.
The Wifi Smart Plug is a simple smart plug that has a plug and play kind of mechanism, and it works with Google Assistant as well as Alexa. Similarly, the Smart Bulb features a 9-watt smart LED light bulb containing 806 lumens which give amazing output. As compared to the other smart light bulbs available in the market, this one does not have the feature to display different shades of colors in it, but users can dim the light in Samsung’s smart bulb,
Currently, the SmartThings platform is operating with 600 compatible devices from 60 different companies, most of which are exactly the same which Samsung launched. But the new cam and smart plug devices do offer something different that can attract customers to the SmartThings platform without needing to purchase a hardware hub.
