Housemarque released a new update for its hit PS5 exclusive, Saros, yesterday, May 19. Since launching on April 30, the developer has rolled out four patches. They aim to optimize the game and improve overall quality of life. An earlier major update on May 5 added accessibility options, color categories, preview images, and Depth of Field optimizations. Another recent update fixed some progression and trophy bugs. Now, the latest patch, version 01.004.003, focuses heavily on squashing game-breaking bugs.
Eradicating Progression Glitches
Many fans consider Saros one of the best PS5 exclusives for console optimization. However, dozens of players reported issues on the game’s subreddit. Specifically, they experienced broken in-game items and mechanics blocking mission progression. Therefore, Housemarque primarily targeted progression-hindering bugs in this update.
For instance, developers fixed an annoying issue in the Cathedral. Previously, players could get stuck outside the Solar Cage in the Atrium. Furthermore, the team resolved a glitch in the Ancient Depths. This bug previously stopped the Vault door from opening. Additionally, the update addresses a closed gate leading to the Blighted Marsh. It also fixes a bridge to the Desecrated Fortress. Before, this bridge raised too early and allowed players to skip the Blighted Marsh entirely. Finally, developers corrected an incorrect autosave spawn location on specific stairs within the Passage. They also fixed a rare bug that killed players using the Eclipse Threads ability in the Yellow Shore.
Weapon Tweaks & Audio Improvements
The new Saros update fixes several weapon mechanics. First, the Gun Control trait now works perfectly on the Onslaught rifle. Next, the Growth Incapacitor functions correctly after restarting the game. Moreover, the developer addressed a fatal bug. Previously, specific artifacts and weapon traits caused players to die during the Second Chance cinematic.
Housemarque also applied general minor bug fixes to the audio. These smaller visual and audio improvements continually enhance the game’s cinematic feel. Meanwhile, the previous patch adjusted the peak HDR output. Thanks to that change, players can now reach calibrated Maximum Luminance levels on their devices.
Saros Outstanding Reviews & Fan Requests
PlayStation 5 users are leaving rave reviews for Saros. Currently, the PlayStation Store shows nearly 7,000 reviews for the game. Impressively, nearly 85% of these reviews hold a five-star rating. Consequently, the community actively encourages other PS5 owners to play the game. All of this could boost sales and lead to an even faster patch cadence from the developer.
Meanwhile, fans are requesting new features. Interestingly, the most requested addition has nothing to do with gameplay. Fans heavily want a dedicated photo mode. Many players believe the sci-fi universe looks as photogenic as its spiritual predecessor, Returnal. Another popular request is a co-op mode. However, implementing co-op would likely be very difficult if developers did not plan it from the start. Ultimately, Housemarque remains committed to fixing critical gameplay issues and refining performance.
