Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewed the progress on the Rs18.206 billion Solar Home Systems Project, which will provide free solar energy systems to 275,000 low-income families, during a meeting held in Karachi on Friday.
Officials briefed the meeting that the project will benefit 132,000 off-grid households with no access to the national electricity network, along with 143,000 on-grid consumers.
Each eligible family across the province will receive a complete solar home system comprising a 180-watt solar panel, a lithium battery, an energy-efficient fan, and LED lights.
CM Murad directed the Energy Department to accelerate the distribution and installation of the systems across Sindh, stressing that timely implementation is essential so that deserving families can receive the benefits without delay.
The chief minister said that the project is being carried out on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and is aimed at improving access to affordable and sustainable energy for poor households while enhancing their quality of life.
Officials told the meeting that the project is expected to reduce dependence on conventional electricity, lower household energy costs, and promote the use of clean and renewable energy throughout the province.
