Apple is expected to release iOS 27 shortly after its iPhone event next week, and a newly detailed feature could make using two iPhones much easier. The feature, called iPhone Handoff, appears to let users use the same phone number across two iPhones.
Apple briefly mentioned iPhone Handoff during its WWDC announcements in June. However, the company provided little information about how the feature would work. Now, a MacRumors forum member has shared new details after testing the feature through Device Hub in Xcode 27.
According to the findings, users will need to select one iPhone as their main device. The second iPhone will work as a companion device. The main eSIM will remain active on the primary iPhone, while the system will create a companion eSIM for the second device.
This setup could allow users to move between two iPhones without changing their phone number. The phone number will reportedly switch automatically based on which iPhone is unlocked and actively being used. Users may also see a notification in the Dynamic Island whenever the number moves between devices.
The testing also suggests that cellular settings will remain available only on the main iPhone. In addition, iPhone Handoff will require support from mobile carriers. T-Mobile in the US and Deutsche Telekom in Germany could reportedly become among the first carriers to support the feature.
Apple has yet to share the full details of iPhone Handoff publicly. More information could arrive once iOS 27 becomes available to users after the upcoming iPhone event.
