After a grueling wait, Uber has finally launched in Karachi, six months after starting operations in Pakistan.

Initially, the services will be provided in Clifton, Saddar Town, Jamshed Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, Malir Town and Korangi. Furthermore, the rides till this weekend will be completely free. This means you can enjoy up to five free rides all worth Rs. 300 until Sunday, August 28th. In order to avail your free ride, all you will have to do is, download the Uber app, register with your personal details, enter the ‘KarachiFREE’ promo code, confirm your pickup location, and request a ride.

Uber, arriving slightly late to Karachi, will have competition in the form of Careem who has formed a considerable standing in the city. But Uber can potentially rival them with their international repute and competitive fairs. Here is how Uber will price:

UberGO Pricing Plan

  • Base Fare: 100
  • Cancellation: 150
  • Minimum Fare: 150
  • Per KM: 13.7
  • Per minute: 3.7

You can find the total cost for any Uber ride by adding the kilometer charge and the minute charge to the base fare. For example, a normal 10 Kilometer ride that took 10 minutes will cost like this:

(10×13.7) + (10 x 3.7) + 100
137 + 37 + 100
= Rs. 274

Here are some sample fare for using Uber around Karachi:

  • Atrium to Burnes Road: Rs. 150
  • IBA City Campus to National Stadium: Rs. 180
  • Hyderi Market to Bahadurabad: Rs. 200
  • Agha Khan Hospital to Jinnah International Airport: Rs. 220
  • PAF Museum to BBQ Tonite: Rs. 300
