Pakistan Railways has launched an upgraded Awam Express service between Peshawar and Karachi as part of its efforts to improve long-distance passenger travel facilities across the country.
The service was inaugurated by Secretary and Chairman Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah at Peshawar Cantt Railway Station. Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi also attended the ceremony.
According to Pakistan Railways, the upgraded Awam Express now features eight air-conditioned coaches along with improved seating arrangements and enhanced passenger facilities. The train has a total capacity of 1,234 passengers.
The inaugural upgraded service departed from Peshawar at 8:30 pm and will travel to Karachi via major stations including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Khanewal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Khanpur, Liaquatpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Daharki, Pano Aqil, Rohri, Nawabshah, Tando Adam, and Hyderabad.
Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Mazhar Ali Shah said Pakistan Railways is continuing its efforts to strengthen operational performance and improve passenger services through modernization and upgraded facilities.
Shahid Afridi expressed condolences over the Quetta incident and offered prayers for the victims, while also congratulating Pakistan Railways on the launch of the improved service.
