Residents across Rawalpindi and Islamabad are currently facing unexpected internet disruptions. Both mobile data and Wi-Fi networks have suffered partial outages in various areas. Consequently, the partially disrupted internet services have created noticeable connectivity issues for citizens across Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified the reason behind the downtime. According to the regulator, a cut in an optical fiber cable struck the network of a single telecom operator. Consequently, this severed line triggered partial operational faults within the networks of several other service providers as well.
Fortunately, this outage is not nationwide. The PTA stated that the disrupted internet services remain strictly localized to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby surrounding areas. In addition, select areas within the country’s northern region are also experiencing degraded internet performance.
Meanwhile, internet services throughout the central and southern parts of Pakistan are operating normally without interruption.
The PTA has addressed public concern directly, advising citizens not to panic over the temporary breakdown. Currently, technical teams are actively working on-site to repair the cut optical fiber cable.
Furthermore, operators are prioritizing rapid restoration across all affected zones. The authority confirmed that technical crews are making steady progress, though full restoration of normal internet services will take a few hours.
