Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone may bring major camera upgrades, according to a new rumor from China. The latest leak claims the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will feature two powerful 200MP cameras, including a new main sensor and an upgraded periscope telephoto lens.
The report says the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will use a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch “new generation” LOFIC sensor. This would mark a huge jump from the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which offered a 50MP primary camera.
Xiaomi may also introduce a 200MP periscope telephoto camera on the device. The sensor is said to measure 1/1.56 inches and will support 3x optical zoom with an f/2.4 aperture. In addition, the telephoto lens will reportedly handle macro photography from nearly 15cm away.
This setup would be very different from the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The previous model featured a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The macro focusing distance was also longer at 30cm. As a result, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could offer better close-up photography while using a shorter zoom range.
Earlier rumors also revealed several other expected upgrades. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max may run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. The device is also expected to feature a 6.9-inch flat LIPO OLED display.
At the same time, Xiaomi will reportedly keep the rear display design seen on its predecessor. The company may also improve the phone’s speakers and vibration motor for a better overall experience.
Xiaomi has not confirmed any of these details yet. However, if the leaks turn out to be accurate, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could arrive with one of the biggest camera upgrades in the company’s recent flagship history.
