The Poco X8 may finally be on its way after months of uncertainty surrounding Xiaomi’s next mid-range smartphone. Xiaomi launched the Poco X8 Pro and Poco X8 Pro Max in March. However, the company never introduced the standard Poco X8. As time passed, many fans believed Xiaomi had quietly canceled the device, as there was no official information about its status.
Now, new findings suggest the vanilla model is still in development. X user reportedly discovered references to the Poco X8 in Xiaomi’s HyperOS source code. The code points to a camera setup that includes a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth camera.
The specifications look familiar because the Poco X8 is expected to be a rebranded version of the Chinese Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G. Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G in China alongside the standard Redmi Note 17.
If the information is accurate, the Poco X8 could arrive with one of its biggest upgrades yet. The Chinese Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G features a massive 9,000 mAh battery. Therefore, the global Poco X8 may also carry the same battery capacity.
However, battery size could vary by region. European regulations make it difficult for smartphone brands to use very large single-cell batteries. As a result, Xiaomi may reduce the battery capacity for models sold in Europe. Even so, the global Poco X8 is still expected to offer a notable battery upgrade over its predecessor.
The report also claims that the global Redmi Note 17 Pro variant will include an 8MP ultrawide camera. If Xiaomi follows the same strategy, the Poco X8 could also gain this additional rear camera.
Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the Poco X8 yet. However, the latest code references suggest that the smartphone is still part of the company’s upcoming plans. More details could emerge in the coming weeks.
