Facebook has just activated “Sale Groups” for a number of Pakistani users, allowing anyone to find and create sale groups to sell stuff directly through the social network.

Unveiled last year, “Sale Groups” is Facebook’s way of taking on online web portals like Olx and Ebay. With well over a billion users, the social network is already used by a lot of retailers and entrepreneurs to market and sell their products directly. This new feature makes it even easier for anyone to post an ad for their product on Facebook and arrange a deal with other users.

To access it, go to Facebook’s home page and click on “Sale Groups” on the left side of the homepage under the Groups section. You will now be displayed with a map of the Sale groups nearest to you, along with a list of suggested ones given below.

How to sell something on Facebook?

If you want to sell something, just join a group similar to the product you want to sell and make a post. For example, if I want to sell an iPhone 5, I would click on “Sale Groups” and look for a mobile group and join it. Once approved, I can now choose the “Sell” feature when creating a post, add a description and a price quote. Interested people can contact me directly through message or comment on the post after seeing my ad and a mutually decided pick-up/delivery location can be set. Once the item has been sold, I can also mark my post as Available or Sold. A catalog of previously sold items will be visible to me (the seller).

The only difference between a normal group and a sale group is that sale groups allow users to list items for sales, mark them as available/sold and search for items to buy.

How to turn sale features on/off?

  1. Click on the three dots icon on the top-right corner of your group and select “Edit Group Settings”.
  2. Next to “Group Type”, click “Change”.
  3. To turn it on, select “Buy, Sell, Trade” and click “Confirm”.
  4. To turn it off, select any new group type and click “Confirm”.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom and click Save.

Most of these sales features have been around for quite a while but the “Sale Groups” tab went live for Pakistani users only recently. The Mark Zuckerberg-led company is gradually transforming itself in a tech-behemoth, capable of doing everything it possibly can to keep you from leaving it, not even for a few moments.
