Youtube bans videos showing guns’ modification after Vegas incident

In the wake of the brutal killings by shooting in Las Vegas, YouTube has decided to ban videos presenting modifying tools for guns to fire more rapidly.

YouTube is now removing videos which are showing how to fire weapons faster by installing some devices on their weapons.

The company is updating its community guidelines to further clarify the policy change. Videos that are showing the usage of “bump stock” device insertion, by which the guns can fire more quickly are being banned from the site.

Stephan Paddock, the gunman who was the cause of that tragic incident, used bump stock in his weapon which resulted in the death of 59 people and several other hundreds were injured.

Social Media outlets are struggling to balance between the point of giving users the freedom to publish content of their own choices and controlling potentially harmful content.

A YouTube’s spokesperson distinctly speaking said “We have long had a policy against harmful and dangerous content. In the wake of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, we took a closer look at videos that demonstrate how to convert firearms to make them fire more quickly and we expanded our existing policy to prohibit these videos.”

A week ago, YouTube modified its search engine to promote videos from many mainstream news platforms. Later on, allegations were raised on YouTube for spreading conspiracy theories after the Las Vegas shooting.

Even Google was not able to make its way out of this situation and it has also faced trouble after shooting, for promoting misinformation in its “Top News” section.
