Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been rocked by a major scandal involving 514 suspected fake degrees and serious financial irregularities.
The Gomal University Vice Chancellor, acting on provincial government instructions, took formal notice of alleged irregularities spanning several years involving 514 suspicious degrees.
Additional Controller Muhammad Waseem and IT Director Riaz Ahmad have both been suspended in connection with the fake degree case, with further action expected soon.
A high-level investigation is currently under way into financial misappropriation and irregularities allegedly committed at Gomal University between 2019 and 2023.
Hundreds of degrees in official records have been flagged as suspicious, and a formal recommendation has been made to cancel those fraudulent qualifications entirely.
A newly constituted inquiry committee has been established to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the full scope of the emerging scandal.
Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi has directed authorities to tighten oversight across all public higher education institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province immediately.
Minister Afridi stated that all individuals found involved in the Gomal University scandal would face strict and uncompromising accountability without any exceptions whatsoever.
She further vowed that the higher education system would be completely cleansed of corruption and the network of those producing fraudulent degrees across the province.
