Facial Recognition Cameras To Be Installed In Punjab Schools To Strengthen Safety

Lahore: The Punjab Education Department has announced the installation of advanced surveillance systems in schools across the province, incorporating facial recognition technology to bolster security measures. This initiative serves two purposes by stopping unauthorized entry and protecting both students and staff in school facilities.

The security update includes the installation of advanced high-tech video cameras to track and identify students, staff and visitors who enter the school facility.  The system will automatically generate daily reports for authorities, allowing them to better administrative control and security management.

These security measures are especially important in highly populated areas like Lahore because their installation seeks to protect the many students that study there.  Real-time data from monitoring systems allows for rapid responses and interventions when crises arise, such as building breaches, accidents, or unsafe scenario occurrences.

This initiative serves two functions by defending school property from trespassing and vandalism while simultaneously strengthening disciplinary practices throughout high-risk areas such as hallways and playgrounds.

Due to ongoing security threats, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Education Department has ordered a ban on all school field outings, tours and picnics.  The notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department requires all government schools, including combined district educational facilities, to follow this directive.

Demographic Education Officers (DEOs) are responsible for ensuring that the policy is strictly followed. The officials stated that this step aims to reduce outside threats by keeping pupils within secured school limits, allowing authorities to focus on school security measures.

“These steps are being taken to create a more secure educational environment for students and staff,” an education department official remarked.

The implementation of AI-powered surveillance in Punjab schools marks a significant shift towards technology-driven security solutions. As authorities continue to refine safety protocols, similar measures may be introduced in other provinces to enhance protection across educational institutions.
