This Giant Bridge Could Be Pakistans Biggest Connectivity Breakthrough

South Asia’s longest river bridge, the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge, is currently under construction in Sindh. The monumental project project set to span 12.5 kilometers and slated for completion by 2028 at a cost of Rs30.5 billion.

“This will be the longest river bridge in the entire South Asian region,” said Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Investment and Public-Private Partnership, during a meeting with the business community on Thursday.

According to the official, work on South Asia’s longest river bridge has been progressing at full pace over the last two years. “Our goal is to complete and inaugurate the bridge by 2028,” he stated.

Positioned at a critical point linking the provinces of Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh, the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity. “This project will not only drive prosperity within Pakistan but will also benefit the broader South Asian region,” he emphasized.

The bridge is set to drastically cut travel time across the river — reducing it from the current 2.5 hours to just 15 minutes. “It will also address long-standing challenges such as law and order issues and kidnapping incidents in the katcha (low-lying) areas along the riverbanks,” Qamar added.

South Asia’s Longest River Bridge to Uplift Local Economies

While Ghotki has experienced some degree of industrial growth and enhanced highway connections, Kandhkot has lagged behind. “With the completion of South Asia’s longest river bridge, job creation and improved livelihoods will follow for the people of Kandhkot,” he said.

During his interaction with business leaders, Qamar and his team also presented nearly a dozen major projects — including special economic zones, infrastructure developments, schools, and hospitals — collectively valued at over Rs616 billion.

The meeting was attended by prominent business figures including National Assembly Member Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry leader Zubair Motiwala, industrialist and stockbroker Arif Habib, along with Arif Elahi, Danish Khan, Junaid Naqi, Zahid Saeed, Sameer Chinoy, and Danish Elahi.
