Spotify unveils brand new tools for free and premium users
Spotify has begun to roll out a batch of new features designed to give both free and Premium subscribers greater control over their listening experience, including a 30-day “Snooze” button, an overhauled Queue interface, enhanced playlist-management tools, and a quick-access Create button.
These updates, some already live, others in gradual rollout, aim to streamline how users discover, save, and share music across mobile and desktop platforms.
30-Day “Snooze” Button for Premium Users
Premium subscribers can now tap a Snooze icon on any track to temporarily remove it from recommendations for 30 days, ideal for those who need a break from overplayed songs. This new function complements the existing Hide button by extending its effect across all devices and playlists whenever activated.
Spotify Revamped Queue Interface
The Queue view on Premium accounts has been redesigned to include dedicated shuffle, smart-shuffle, repeat, and sleep-timer controls, alongside a live preview of Spotify’s recommended tracks after queued songs end.
This feature allows listeners to better anticipate and tailor their upcoming plays without exiting the Queue screen.
Enhanced Playlist Management for Everyone
Both free and Premium users will see new “Add,” “Sort,” and “Edit” buttons prominently placed at the top of playlists on mobile, reducing the taps needed to insert tracks, reorder songs, or adjust playlist details.
In select markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa, users can now instantly convert their Liked Songs into new playlists with a single tap.
Quick-Access Create Button
A floating Create button has been added to the bottom-right of the mobile app, providing one-tap access to build fresh playlists, join shared collections, or start collaborative sessions with friends as reported by Android Authority. Premium users also gain direct entry to AI-generated playlists and Group Session invites, creating a social listening experiences.
Desktop App Gets Track Preview
On desktop, Spotify has enabled instant track previews for playlists, albums, and artist pages, previously a mobile-only feature, letting users sample songs without committing to full plays. This aligns the desktop experience with mobile, ensuring feature parity across platforms.
Strategic Context and Availability
These enhancements arrive amid Spotify’s ongoing efforts to refine user engagement and differentiate Premium from free tiers. While the Snooze and Queue upgrades remain exclusive to Premium, most playlist-management tools are available to all users, reinforcing Spotify’s freemium model. The new features are rolling out over the next few days to the latest versions of the Spotify app on iOS, Android, and desktop.
With these updates, Spotify is appealing to a larger consumer base, amidst tough competition from Apple and YouTube.
