Cda Enables Digital Payments At Over 38000 Islamabad Shops

Islamabad is rapidly moving toward a cashless economy as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) mandates that all retail outlets under its trade license system must accept digital payments.

The civic body has taken a major step toward modernizing Islamabad’s retail sector by making digital payments compulsory for all businesses operating with a CDA trade license. As part of this shift, more than 38,819 retail shops across the capital are now officially equipped to accept digital payments.

This initiative is aligned with the national “Cashless Pakistan Strategic Roadmap,” which aims to reduce dependence on physical cash and increase financial transparency. To support the transition, businesses of all sizes, including small kiosks and major retail chains, have been enabled to integrate Raast QR codes for seamless transactions.

The rollout has been executed through coordination with 12 partner banks and Electronic Money Institutions. Key players such as Jazz, Easypaisa, and JS Bank have been instrumental in onboarding merchants and ensuring smooth activation of digital payments across the city.

Officials note that the mandate will significantly strengthen consumer convenience while improving security and tax compliance. For shop owners, adopting digital payments also means smoother business processes and the opportunity to cater to a growing base of customers who prefer cashless transactions.
