PM&DC Restores Passing Marks to 50 Percent for MBBS and BDS Students
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has reversed its earlier policy and reinstated passing marks of 50 percent for MBBS and BDS students nationwide.
In a fresh notification issued for the 2024-2025 academic year, the council confirmed that the minimum score to clear exams for both degree programs will return to the previous benchmark of 50 percent.
PM&DC had earlier approved an increase in passing marks to 65 percent for the same session. However, the council withdrew the move after receiving widespread feedback from students and academic bodies. Officials noted that the revised policy aims to create a more flexible and supportive environment for medical and dental students across the country.
Along with adjusting the grading criteria, the council has also eased attendance rules for medical students. The previous requirement of 85 percent attendance has now been revised back to 75 percent for the upcoming session. Universities and medical colleges have been instructed to enforce these updated standards without delay as part of the new academic year’s framework.
According to the notification, these changes are designed to make medical education more accessible while still ensuring quality standards for future healthcare professionals. The updated criteria are expected to offer significant relief to students who had raised concerns about meeting the earlier thresholds.
