Amazon is giving self-published authors a new way to reach global readers with Kindle Translate, an AI-powered translation tool now available in beta. The feature launched on Thursday for a limited group of Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) authors.
In its initial version, Kindle Translate can convert text between English and Spanish and from German to English, all at no additional cost to authors. The tool aims to simplify the multilingual publishing process while maintaining translation quality.
Authors can choose the languages for translation, preview their ebooks, and set separate list prices before publication. According to Amazon, each translation is automatically reviewed for accuracy before release. Books created through this system will include a “Kindle Translate” label, helping readers identify AI-translated titles.
Amazon says that fewer than 5% of books on its platform are currently available in more than one language. The company hopes Kindle Translate will significantly expand that number. Translated titles will also qualify for KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited, giving authors more visibility and potential earnings.
The launch follows Audible’s introduction of an AI-driven multilingual narration tool earlier this year, showing Amazon’s growing push into AI-assisted content creation. With Kindle Translate, Amazon is taking another step toward making digital publishing more accessible and globally inclusive.
