Islamabad is set to enforce a major security upgrade as authorities announce the mandatory issuance of e-tags for all vehicles entering or operating in the capital. The initiative, starting November 18, aims to boost monitoring and streamline vehicle identification following recent security concerns.
The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that e-tags will be required for all vehicles whether registered in Islamabad or any other province. Citizens will be notified in advance about designated issuance points to ensure a smooth rollout.
This move follows an earlier statement by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, who said,
“No vehicle will be allowed on Islamabad roads without an e-tag. This system will help authorities monitor movement more effectively.”
The decision stems from heightened security measures after the tragic suicide blast outside the G-11 district and sessions court that claimed 12 lives and injured 36. Officials believe compulsory tagging will play a critical role in preventing such incidents and improving citywide surveillance.
The government is also coordinating technology upgrades across entry points to support the new system, ensuring smoother enforcement once the requirement becomes fully operational.
