The Punjab government has approved a Rs4,000 per day compensation for teachers engaged in the socio economic survey on public holidays, providing long-awaited relief to thousands of educators who performed official duties on Sundays and holidays.
According to official instructions issued by the Punjab Urban Unit, teachers assigned survey work on Sundays or public holidays will now receive Rs4,000 per day. The decision follows multiple complaints from teachers over delays and non-payment of allowances despite extended working hours.
Sources said the issue was raised with relevant authorities after teachers continued survey duties beyond regular schedules without clarity on compensation.
To ensure timely disbursement, the Punjab Urban Unit has issued formal letters to all concerned departments, directing them to complete the payment process without further delay. Officials said the move aims to acknowledge teachers’ extra efforts and improve coordination in ongoing and future surveys.
Teachers’ organisations welcomed the decision, calling it a legitimate right of educators performing additional duties. Union representatives said the allowance would not only ease financial concerns but also help improve the efficiency and quality of the socio-economic survey.
