Head Teachers to Get Up to Rs10,000 Under New Allowance
The Punjab government has announced a major relief package for teachers by increasing the Head Teacher Allowance tenfold and approving compensation for teachers who performed socio-economic survey duties on public holidays, marking a significant step toward rewarding performance and extra responsibilities.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said the enhanced allowance is part of a merit-based policy aimed at motivating head teachers and improving school management. Under the revised structure, eligible head teachers will now receive an additional Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 per month, depending on performance indicators.
In a separate development, the government approved compensation for thousands of teachers engaged in socio-economic surveys. According to official instructions issued by the Punjab Urban Unit, teachers assigned duties on Sundays or public holidays will be paid Rs4,000 per day.
“The decision was taken after repeated complaints regarding non-payment of allowances to teachers who performed survey duties on holidays,” a senior official said, adding that formal directions have been issued to ensure timely disbursement.
Implementation and Next Steps
The Punjab Urban Unit has written to all relevant departments, instructing them to complete the payment process without further delay. Education officials say the measures are expected to boost morale among teachers and strengthen service delivery across the education sector.
