Punjab To Implement Second Phase Of Teacher Rationalisation Policy

Around 12,000 temporarily appointed school teachers across Punjab have been left unpaid for the past two months due to the School Education Department’s failure to finalize a salary disbursement mechanism, raising serious concerns among affected educators.

According to officials, teacher interns working in government schools have not received their salaries for the last two months. Although their contracts were recently extended, payments remain stalled, leaving teachers without financial support while they continue performing regular teaching duties.

Officials said the delay stems from uncertainty over whether salaries should be disbursed directly through banks or routed via school heads. The absence of clear instructions has resulted in system-wide delays affecting thousands of temporary teachers across the province.

Teachers have expressed concern over the prolonged delay, noting that continued uncertainty has placed financial strain on them. Despite ongoing services in classrooms, the School Education Department has yet to announce a timeline or mechanism for clearing the pending dues.
