Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Sarfraz Bugti has raised serious security concerns regarding the installation of 4G internet towers in sparsely populated regions of the province. Speaking at a press conference in Quetta on Friday, the CM questioned the origin and purpose of this infrastructure.
During a recent helicopter flight, CM Bugti observed active 4G services in areas with little to no population, specifically sighting towers in Sangan. He expressed surprise at the existence of these facilities, where they seemingly serve no commercial public interest. Bugti asked:

He warned that these unregistered towers could be exploited by militants to coordinate activities against the state and law enforcement agencies. This highlights a significant gap in the regulation of telecommunications infrastructure in sensitive zones.
CM Bugti Announced Rs. 3B for Controlled Connectivity
Transitioning to digital development, the Chief Minister announced a massive Rs. 3 billion initiative to upgrade the province’s digital backbone. This project aims to lay fibre optic cables connecting schools, colleges, universities, and hospitals across Balochistan.
While the government intends to expand internet access for the public, CM Bugti emphasised that this new connectivity will come with strict oversight. The initiative ensures that internet usage remains monitored to prevent misuse while boosting the region’s educational and health sectors.
Security Forces Foil Bank Heist in Kharan
The CM also briefed the media on a major security operation in Kharan town. The Frontier Corps (FC) successfully neutralised 12 terrorists who attempted to storm banking facilities.
According to Bugti, a group of 15 to 20 individuals tried to enter the banks to loot cash. Law enforcement personnel responded swiftly, killing four militants on the spot at three separate locations. In total, the operation resulted in the elimination of 12 terrorists.
However, the attackers managed to inflict some damage. They attempted to break into ATMs and stole Rs. 3.4 million from one bank before fleeing. During the exchange of fire, one civilian sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
