Islamabad has introduced a clearer and more structured system for private school registration as the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) announced a fixed annual schedule for registration and renewal, aiming to improve regulatory efficiency and transparency across the capital.
Under the new mechanism, all private educational institutions in Islamabad will be required to apply for renewal between March 1 and April 30 each year. PEIRA will finalize the renewal process by June 30, while inspection visits, where necessary, will be conducted during May and June. The move is intended to streamline administrative processes and reduce delays faced by schools.
PEIRA has also clarified that applications for new school registrations can be submitted throughout the year. However, approvals for new registrations will only be granted until April 30 annually. According to the authority, this fixed cutoff will ensure better planning and consistency in regulatory oversight.
In a significant relief for schools, PEIRA has approved an optional extension of the renewal period from two years to three years. Institutions opting for this facility will need to pay renewal fees in advance and comply fully with the 2024 regulatory rules. A PEIRA official stated that the revised framework was introduced to prevent revenue losses from delayed renewals and to align the registration cycle with the academic and operational needs of private schools.
PEIRA regulates private educational institutions under the Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2013. Over the years, inconsistent renewal timelines and delayed applications had created administrative challenges, prompting the authority to introduce a fixed and predictable schedule.
