IO Interactive finally dropped the curtain on 007 First Light yesterday. During PlayStation’s massive State of Play event, the developer released a gripping story trailer for the highly anticipated title. This action-adventure game has been in the works for six years. Now, we know it launches on May 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

A Reckless New Bond
The new trailer sets the stage for a unique origin story. It introduces a young, inexperienced James Bond. His early exploits in Iceland showcase the nerve and resourcefulness that eventually catch MI6’s eye. Consequently, he enters the gruelling training of the newly revived “00” programme.
Unlike the polished spy fans might expect, this version of Bond is reckless. He relies on instinct rather than protocol. However, the footage makes it clear that he possesses the raw potential to become a world-renowned 00 agent.
007 First Light: Star-Studded Cast & Story
IO Interactive also gave us a closer look at the supporting cast. Priyanga Burford takes on the role of M, while Lennie James portrays John Greenway. Greenway is a former 00 agent and the programme’s current instructor. Naturally, his strict, by-the-book philosophy clashes with Bond’s improvisational style.
Despite their differences, the two must form an unlikely duo. Their mission? To take down 009, a former British operative turned rogue. This mission takes players across the globe, from the quiet Carpathian Mountains to the dangerous black market of Aleph. Along the way, Bond encounters figures like the unpredictable Bawma (played by Lenny Kravitz) and the mysterious Charlotte Roth (Noemie Nakai).
007 First Light Pre-Orders & Special Editions
Alongside the trailer, IO Interactive officially opened pre-orders, revealing some massive incentives for early adopters and hardcore fans.
If you pre-order now, you automatically get a Free Deluxe Edition Upgrade. This pack includes four exclusive outfits, a new weapon skin, and the “Gleaming Pack”, which features golden skins for your gadgets like earbuds, a lighter, phone, and pen. Digital pre-orders also come with a sweet bonus of 24-hour early access to the game.
For the ultimate Bond fan, the Collector’s Edition is a showstopper. It includes everything in the Deluxe Edition plus an exclusive “Obsidian Gold Suit”. On the physical side, you get a stunning Steel Case, a Certificate of Authenticity, and the centrepiece… a Lifesize Mask Replica displayed on a stand.
Release Date & State of Play Updates
Originally, the game was set for a March 27 release. However, IO Interactive made the tough decision to delay the launch by two months to May 27. The studio confirmed the game is fully playable from beginning to end. This extra time simply allows for final polishing to ensure an exceptional experience.
Beyond 007 First Light, the State of Play event was packed with major news. Santa Monica Studio announced a highly requested remake of the original God of War trilogy and shadow-dropped God of War: Sons of Sparta for PS5. Additionally, PlayStation confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hits PS Plus Extra and Premium later this month.
