A major European destination just opened new avenues for Pakistan. Italy will issue 10,500 visas specifically for Pakistani skilled workers. This move signals a fresh push for legal migration channels. Furthermore, it aims to regulate overseas employment effectively.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi announced the visa allocation today. He shared this development during a meeting in Rome with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Consequently, Italy is actively encouraging legal migration over illegal routes.
Additionally, Piantedosi revealed another major policy update. Italy plans to offer visa-free entry for Pakistani diplomatic passport holders. Naqvi had raised this matter previously. Now, both governments are officially taking it forward.
Beyond migration, the two ministers discussed internal security ties. They reviewed ongoing cooperation in several key areas. Specifically, they targeted human smuggling networks, drug trafficking, and terrorism. Both sides acknowledged current measures aimed at disrupting illegal migration routes.
Meanwhile, Naqvi informed the Italian delegation about Pakistan’s recent security upgrades. Pakistan has significantly tightened surveillance at airports and maritime borders. Consequently, these strict checks have brought down illegal departures.
In response, Piantedosi praised Pakistan’s proactive approach. He called Pakistan’s progress against illegal immigration, human trafficking, and narcotics noteworthy. Finally, the Italian interior minister confirmed that both countries will strengthen their collaboration. They will continue promoting legal migration and expand cooperation across other mutual interests.
