Samsung is reportedly working on a new 200-megapixel camera sensor that could raise smartphone photography to a new level. Named ISOCELL HPC, the sensor will use a larger 1/1.3-inch type format, an upgrade over the 1/1.4-inch HPB sensor found in vivo’s X300 and X300 Pro.
The ISOCELL HPC is designed for high-end devices and is expected to appear in a future Oppo smartphone, likely within the Find X10 lineup. Samsung has packed the sensor with its latest UFCC technology, or Ultra Fine Color Filter, which reduces the sensor’s thickness while enhancing light transmission and color accuracy.
In addition, the sensor promises ultra-high dynamic range, which should improve detail and contrast even in challenging lighting conditions. The combination of higher resolution and advanced color filtering could make this one of the most capable smartphone sensors when it arrives.
