The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has directed 10 universities across the country to immediately stop offering unrecognized postgraduate medical and dental programs, warning that such degrees will not be accepted for registration.
In a public notice, the council said these institutions were enrolling MBBS and BDS graduates in postgraduate courses without completing the required accreditation process. The move comes as part of efforts to regulate medical education and ensure that qualifications meet national standards.
The universities named in the notice include:
- Times University Multan
- NUR International University Lahore
- Gomal University D.I. Khan
- Sohail University Karachi
- Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur
- Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology Rahim Yar Khan
- University of Faisalabad
- University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir
- Hazara University Mansehra
- Kohat University of Science and Technology.
According to the council, institutions must follow a proper approval process before launching any postgraduate medical or dental program. It said that under the PM&DC Act, 2022, no university is allowed to run such courses without formal recognition.
The notice also highlighted that institutions cannot affiliate themselves with unapproved programs or advertise them in any form. Any violation of these rules, the council warned, would be considered a breach of the law.
