The Punjab Transport Company has launched a new initiative to establish tuck shops at bus stops under its Empower Project, aiming to boost women’s economic participation while improving public transport facilities.
According to an official progress report, these tuck shops are being operated by deserving women, with support and facilitation provided by the Akhuwat Foundation.
The initiative has been executed in multiple phases over recent months. The first phase was completed in December last year, with the construction of 10 tuck shops.
In February, authorities added 11 more shops, followed by another 11 in March. With the completion of all three phases, a total of 32 tuck shops are now operational at various bus stops across the city.
In addition to the tuck shops, authorities have introduced Wi-Fi services and security cameras at selected bus stops. These upgrades are aimed at enhancing both convenience and safety for daily commuters.
Officials stated that the core objective of the project is to create sustainable income opportunities for women, enabling them to achieve financial independence.
The initiative also contributes to improving urban infrastructure by offering better services and amenities at public transport points.
Authorities believe the project will not only support women entrepreneurs but also enhance the overall commuting experience for city residents.
