The Islamabad Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive traffic plan following the closure of Ataturk Avenue due to ongoing construction work in the federal capital.
According to officials, Ataturk Avenue will remain closed for traffic from Express Chowk to Ayub Chowk (Aga Khan Road) starting March 31, 2026, and will stay shut until the completion of the project.
Authorities have outlined alternative routes to manage traffic flow during the closure:
- Commuters traveling from Jinnah Avenue towards the Marriott Hotel will be diverted via China Chowk, Press Club Road, Super Market, and Aga Khan Road.
- Traffic coming from Khayaban-e-Suhrawardy and Embassy Road towards the Marriott Hotel will be rerouted through Shaheed-e-Millat Road, China Chowk underpass, Press Club Road, and Aga Khan Road.
- Motorists traveling from Srinagar Highway towards the Secretariat will use Serena Chowk, Globe Chowk, and Secretariat Chowk as alternate routes.
Routes for Local Residents
Residents of Sector F-6 and surrounding areas have also been advised on alternative routes:
- Commuters from Seventh Avenue can access the Secretariat via Margalla Road and Shahrah-e-Dastoor.
- Residents of Sector F-6 should use Seventh Avenue and Margalla Road during the closure period.
Public Advisory
The Islamabad Traffic Police has urged citizens to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic officials to avoid congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The advisory comes as authorities continue expansion and development work on Ataturk Avenue, a key artery in Islamabad’s road network.
