The State Bank of Pakistan has launched a nationwide “Go Cashless” campaign for Eid-ul-Azha 2026 to encourage secure and convenient digital transactions in cattle markets across the country.
The initiative is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on cash and accelerate digitization of Pakistan’s payment ecosystem.
According to SBP, cattle markets witness massive commercial activity during Eid-ul-Azha, with most transactions traditionally conducted through cash. The central bank said it has been using this seasonal economic activity in recent years to promote digital financial inclusion and expand the use of electronic payment systems.
Building on previous campaigns, the 2026 initiative has been significantly expanded, with the number of participating cattle markets increasing from 54 in 2025 to 96 markets nationwide this year.
Under the campaign, 22 participating banks will establish dedicated camps and kiosks at assigned cattle markets to facilitate digital transactions for buyers and sellers.
The banks will also onboard cattle traders, transporters, and related service providers onto digital payment systems through account openings and QR code-based payment solutions.
To support higher transaction volumes during the Eid season, SBP has announced temporary relaxations in transaction and account balance limits from May 14 to June 5, 2026.
Additionally, mobile banking vans, ATMs, and Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs) will be deployed where feasible to improve access to financial services in and around cattle markets.
The central bank has encouraged the public to use digital payment methods, including mobile banking apps, branchless banking wallets, Raast-enabled services, and QR code payments during Eid-related transactions.
SBP stated that digital payments offer greater convenience and security, reduce risks associated with carrying cash, and contribute toward a more transparent and inclusive financial system in Pakistan.
