Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Jameel Ahmad stated that the introduction of new currency note designs is expected to face delays due to ongoing government-level revision requests.
SBP had submitted proposed banknote designs to the government for approval, but officials returned them to the SBP requesting additional changes and further design improvements.
The central bank is currently reworking the designs based on government feedback, and final approval for the new notes will be granted by the federal cabinet.
Speaking at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, Jameel Ahmad told business leaders that the economic conditions today differ markedly from those recorded 3 years ago.
He acknowledged that despite visible economic recovery, the country continues to face challenges, including economic pressures linked to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The governor noted that the issuance of letters of credit in 2026 has improved considerably compared to conditions that businesses faced during the economic difficulties of 2023.
The average monthly imports of Pakistan currently exceed $5,000 million, a notable rise from the average monthly import figure of approximately $3,000 million recorded 3 years ago.
