Discord has completed a major privacy upgrade for its users. The platform announced that all voice and video calls now support end-to-end encryption by default. This change comes after years of work to improve security across its communication services.
The new protection covers every voice and video call outside Discord’s stage channels. Users also do not need to enable any extra settings. The encryption works automatically in the background.
With this update, only the people inside a call can access the conversation. Discord itself cannot listen to or view the content of those calls. The move strengthens user privacy at a time when online security remains a major concern.
Many tech companies continue to debate the future of end-to-end encryption, also known as E2EE. Supporters believe the technology is essential for keeping personal conversations private. However, some major platforms have recently stepped away from the feature.
Earlier this year, Meta removed end-to-end encryption from Instagram direct messages. Meanwhile, TikTok also confirmed it would not introduce E2EE support for its direct messages.
Still, several companies continue to back stronger privacy tools. Apple recently announced support for encrypted RCS messaging. The feature improves privacy when Android and iPhone users exchange messages.
Discord’s latest move places the company among the growing number of platforms focusing on secure communication. As privacy concerns increase worldwide, encrypted services are becoming more important for everyday users.
