The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) just dropped a massive update for federal capital residents during the latest Standing Committee meeting on IT and Telecom. Officials confirmed that 5G services are officially active across four major sectors in Islamabad.
Telecom operators have already deployed the 5G infrastructure in Islamabad to kickstart the next-generation network. During recent field tests, PTA officials checked network performance specifically in the Sector F-8 area. Consequently, the network delivered an impressive speed of 100 Mbps. This successful test marks a major milestone for the capital’s digital infrastructure.
While four sectors are enjoying high-speed connectivity, the high-security Red Zone remains completely in the dark. PTA confirmed that they have not launched 5G services in the Red Zone yet. Officials did not state a specific timeline for the area. However, technical rollouts are moving quickly across the rest of the city.
Islamabad is not the only city getting a network upgrade. In fact, PTA revealed that 5G has already launched in 22 cities across Pakistan. The authority plans to conduct its first official 5G rollout check exactly one year from now to ensure companies meet deployment targets.
