Yesterday, Sony officially announced Until Dawn 2 during its latest PlayStation State of Play. Fans have waited years for a true sequel to the interactive horror hit. Now, their patience has finally paid off. A gripping new trailer confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will launch as a PS5 exclusive sometime in 2027.

A New Developer & A Tropical Nightmare
Supermassive Games will not return for this highly anticipated sequel. Instead, Sony handed development duties to Firesprite. Previously, this studio created the well-received VR game Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Therefore, fans can expect a technically impressive experience when the game hits the PS5 next year.
Furthermore, the sequel leaves the original snowy mountains behind. The new story follows a group of supernatural influencers. Normally, these creators fake their ghost-hunting videos for views. However, they travel to a tropical island to shoot new content and suddenly encounter legitimate supernatural horrors.
The Butterfly Effect Returns in Until Dawn 2
Like the fan-favorite original game, Until Dawn 2 forces players to make brutal choices. These decisions carry serious consequences and trigger the returning Butterfly Effect mechanic. Consequently, your rapid choices create branching narrative paths.
For instance, the new trailer highlights a terrifying scenario. A player must choose whether to jump off a cliff alone or push a friend off to supposedly save them. Sadly, pushing them leads to their immediate demise, as the friend hits the rocks below with a sickening thud.
Meanwhile, the game introduces a brand-new main cast to navigate this nightmare. The trailer revealed actor Dacre Montgomery as one of the new faces. Additionally, Peter Stormare will officially reprise his role as the menacing Dr. Hill from the first game. Sony promises to reveal more gameplay footage and character introductions in the coming months.
