Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Sarfaraz Bugti has approved sweeping education reforms aimed at raising literacy rates and improving learning conditions across public schools.
The high-level meeting chaired by CM Bugti approved removal of the uniform requirement at primary level, allowing boys and girls to study together at the same schools.
A proposed policy to declare primary schools gender-free will be presented at the next cabinet session, marking a significant shift in the province’s basic education approach.
The provincial government agreed to launch a double-shift teaching system across 900 schools to expand enrolment capacity and increase access to education for more children.
Officials also approved a substantial salary increase for NCHD teachers, whose pay had remained frozen for several years despite their continued service in underserved communities.
The Schools Education Secretary briefed the meeting that 3,000 single-room schools across Balochistan will receive additional classrooms before the next financial year officially begins.
Uniform reading and writing materials will also be introduced across all government schools to ensure standardised learning outcomes for students throughout the province.
CM Bugti announced the complete elimination of the “taat culture,” directing authorities to supply desks to every active government school so no child sits on the floor.
He warned that officials will face strict action if students are found sitting on mats or floors in any school after the designated compliance deadline has passed.
The chief minister announced he would conduct surprise inspections of remote schools, including visits by helicopter if necessary, to personally assess ground-level educational conditions.
The meeting also agreed on a comprehensive reform agenda covering education, health, and public order sectors as part of the upcoming budget planning process.
CM Bugti stressed that building self-confidence and self-respect among children is a critical priority and the government will take every possible measure to achieve this goal.
