The provincial government of Punjab has decided to add 2,000 electric buses to its public transport fleet during the next financial year 2026-27, starting July 2026.
Recommendations have been finalised to allocate over Rs200 billion for transport projects in the upcoming annual budget, with proposals already submitted for approval.
The number of electric buses across the major cities in the province will be significantly increased as part of the broader public transport expansion strategy of the government.
The Lahore-Rawalpindi fast train project has been formally included among the top infrastructure priorities of the Maryam Nawaz-led government for the next financial year.
The government also plans to distribute 50,000 motorcycles to students and provide 5,000 e-taxis to unemployed youth under dedicated welfare schemes.
Punjab will upgrade eight railway tracks during the next financial year as part of a wider effort to modernise existing rail infrastructure across the province.
The government additionally plans to operationalise the ART corridor from Kalma Chowk to Istanbul Chowk in Lahore during the upcoming financial year.
