Blizzard has officially confirmed the next character joining the Overwatch roster. As the highly anticipated Season 3 approaches, players are finally getting a look at Shion. She is a dual-pistol-wielding, motorcycle-riding Damage hero. Earlier this year, Overwatch completely reinvented itself. The developer promised 10 new heroes throughout 2026. Therefore, the game continues to build strong momentum as we head into the back half of the year.
Shion’s Kit: Abilities & Gameplay
Blizzard recently released a dedicated gameplay trailer to showcase Shion’s unique skill set. Naturally, her highly anticipated motorcycle plays a central role. She can ride it around the map for mobility. Additionally, she can literally launch the vehicle directly at her enemies.
As a Damage hero, Shion relies on her dual Kira pistols. She fires these weapons in an “X” shaped volley. However, players can tighten this bullet spread by holding down the activation button. Furthermore, she features a dash ability that quickly grants her temporary “overhealth” during combat.
Her ultimate ability is called Satsuriku Spree. When activated, Shion rushes forward three distinct times while unleashing a massive storm of gunfire. Meanwhile, her passive subrole designates her as a Flanker. This passive ability allows health packs to restore far more health than they normally would. Consequently, players should utilize her speed to sneak behind enemy lines and launch surprise attacks.
Hashimoto Clan Lore & Background
From a story perspective, Shion brings deep ties to the game’s criminal underworld. She is an omnic and a high-ranking member of the notorious Hashimoto Clan. In her official hero trailer, she fiercely battles Sojourn. They fight over a shipment of weapons intended for Vendetta, the leader of Talon.
Shion joins a growing list of characters connected to the Hashimoto crime syndicate, including Mizuki. Moreover, this places her directly at odds with the rival Shimada Clan, which formerly housed Hanzo and Genji. The lore also connects her to Kiriko’s parents, Asa and Toshiro. The Hashimoto Clan previously forced them into service because of their remarkable blacksmithing skills.
Moving Past Overwatch Season 2 Controversies
Overwatch’s massive 2026 revival started incredibly strong. Blizzard relaunched Season 1 by dropping five new heroes at once. Fan favorites like Jetpack Cat and Domina instantly added unique elements to the existing cast. Afterward, Season 2 introduced Sierra. She is a Helix Security captain fighting Talon agents at Grand Mesa alongside her explosive combat drone.
Despite these exciting additions, Season 2 faced significant unevenness. Blizzard kicked off the big 10th Anniversary celebration, but it disappointed many fans. The update introduced 21 exclusive launch hero skins. However, players heavily criticized the overall lack of content and near-unobtainable rewards.
The community outcry grew extremely loud. As a result, Overwatch director Aaron Keller took to social media to address player concerns. He quickly increased the amount of loot boxes. Furthermore, he reduced the number of completed challenges required to unlock the exclusive “Table Flip” title. Now, as the page turns to Season 3 today, Blizzard hopes Shion will keep the game moving on a positive track.
