The Punjab government has announced an increase in funding for school sports activities and will begin distributing free sports kits to selected schools from the next fiscal year as part of efforts to promote student participation in sports.
According to education board officials, the annual sports fund has been increased from Rs. 10 million to Rs. 15 million to strengthen and expand sporting activities across affiliated educational institutions.
As part of the initiative, 1,000 schools in the Lahore Division will receive free sports kits during the next fiscal year. The selected institutions include 500 boys’ schools and 500 girls’ schools affiliated with the Lahore Board.
Officials have also instructed all nine educational boards in Punjab to ensure the timely distribution of sports kits among their affiliated schools and to take practical measures to encourage greater student participation in sports.
The sports kits will include equipment for a variety of games, including cricket, football, hockey, basketball, table tennis, and other popular sports.
The initiative is aimed at fostering a stronger sports culture in schools, encouraging physical activity among students, and increasing participation in organized sporting events across the province.
Education authorities believe the enhanced funding and provision of sports equipment will help improve access to sports facilities and contribute to the physical and overall development of students.
