A new report surfaced recently regarding the highly anticipated Resident Evil Requiem story DLC. According to prominent leaker Dusk Golem, the expansion is definitely still in the works. However, players will likely have to wait until after the Resident Evil Veronica remake launches in 2027. Previously, fans expressed disappointment when Capcom only added the “Leon Must Die Forever” minigame. Consequently, this new update brings both exciting and frustrating news for the community.
Ambitious Resident Evil Requiem Story DLC
Fortunately, the long wait might actually pay off. Capcom has reportedly decided to be much more ambitious with this upcoming expansion. According to the leak, developers listened closely to player feedback following the launch of Resident Evil Requiem. As a result, they are now creating a much longer story DLC. You can expect the length to match massive campaigns like Separate Ways from the Resident Evil 4 remake and Shadows of Rose from Resident Evil Village. Furthermore, Dusk Golem claims that the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica and rumored Resident Evil Zero remakes will directly tie into Requiem.
So, why is the DLC taking so long? The primary reason is a massive shift in studio resources. Currently, the Resident Evil Veronica remake requires an “all hands on deck” approach to cross the development finish line. Meanwhile, Capcom is allegedly working on the Resident Evil Zero remake at the same time. Therefore, very few team members are currently available to actively work on the Requiem expansion. Because Veronica is slated for a 2027 release, the DLC timeline naturally pushes much further back.
A New Strategy for Side Stories
Interestingly, this DLC strategy represents a major shift for Capcom. Dusk Golem noted that the studio recently experienced unspecified “issues” with standalone side games. As a temporary solution, Capcom will now use longer story DLCs to tell experimental side stories. Financially, this strategy makes perfect sense. Mainline games perform exceptionally well right out of the gate. For instance, Resident Evil Requiem sold over 8 million units in just a few months. In contrast, a side game like Resident Evil Revelations 2 took a full decade to sell 4.2 million units. Ultimately, it is much easier to sell inexpensive DLC attached to a massive hit than to market a full-priced side game.
(1/3) I want to share something I heard which I think is really interesting, Resident Evil related.
Capcom is investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of RE, of the length & ambition as Separate Ways/Shadow of Rose, for both Requiem & future RE titles. There's a

(3/3) is something of a temporary solution Capcom is employing, investing in longer story DLCs for their RE games which work as smaller, more experimental "side stories" for the franchise. It also will help fill their schedule of releases in-between the bigger RE games.

As always, gamers should take these claims with a grain of salt until Capcom officially comments on the matter.
