The Punjab Health Department has introduced revised guidelines for postgraduate medical training, aiming to enhance the quality of specialist education and ensure a fair and transparent admission process across the province.
According to an official spokesperson, the new policy will come into effect from the January 2027 admission session and is designed to provide equal opportunities for candidates from both the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and medical universities.
Under the revised policy, second fellowship postgraduate training, previously known as Level IV under the Central Induction Program (CIP), will be offered exclusively through university degree programs leading to MD and MS qualifications.
The Health Department clarified that doctors holding FCPS qualifications will continue to remain fully eligible for second fellowship training under the updated framework.
To ensure equal representation, second fellowship MD/MS training seats in government teaching hospitals operating under the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department will be distributed equally between eligible candidates.
Under the new seat allocation formula, 50 percent of the available seats will be reserved for candidates with MD/MS degrees from medical universities, while the remaining 50 percent will be allocated to candidates holding FCPS qualifications awarded by CPSP.
Officials said the revised policy aims to create a level playing field for all eligible candidates while maintaining merit and transparency in postgraduate admissions.
The department also noted that graduates of Punjab’s medical institutions continue to represent Pakistan with distinction through their professional expertise both nationally and internationally.
According to the Health Department, the policy reforms are intended to further strengthen postgraduate medical education and improve the overall quality of specialist training in public-sector teaching hospitals across Punjab.
