Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed federal institutions to immediately shift to the newly established national central data center, Sky 47, as part of the government’s broader digital transformation strategy.
Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the national digital policy framework in Islamabad, the prime minister said the centralized public sector data center would act as a single repository for government data and help improve coordination among institutions.
He also ordered the early convening of the National Digital Commission to ensure effective coordination with provincial governments and other stakeholders for the implementation of Pakistan’s digital vision under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025.
The prime minister said the national digital strategy should initially prioritize key sectors, including health, agriculture, utilities, housing, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to enhance public service delivery and improve governance.
According to the briefing presented during the meeting, Pakistan’s digital transformation program is being expanded across multiple sectors, including energy and food, with initiatives underway in 14 additional priority areas.
Officials said the program is expected to improve institutional efficiency, strengthen the economy, and enhance Pakistan’s trade and industrial competitiveness through the adoption of modern digital systems.
The briefing highlighted that digitization of the housing sector will introduce a central identification number for all public and private properties. Meanwhile, the SME digital initiative will create a unified digital identity system for businesses to support productivity, documentation, and economic formalization.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said the successful implementation of the national digital vision would eventually enable citizens to access government verification services, banking facilities, healthcare services, property transfers, and other public services through a single digital identity system.
He said the initiative would help align Pakistan’s governance framework with international digital standards and accelerate the country’s transition toward a technology-driven economy.
