Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has announced the revival of the Ehsaas Scholarship Program through provincial funding to support deserving students and strengthen higher education institutions across the province.
Speaking at the University of Peshawar’s convocation, the chief minister reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and improving academic standards.
Afridi said the government had taken significant steps to address the financial challenges faced by public universities after assuming office.
According to the chief minister, pension liabilities accumulated between 2017 and June 2026 have been fully cleared, while the combined financial deficit of public sector universities has been reduced from nearly Rs. 9 billion to approximately Rs. 4.5 billion.
He further announced that the provincial government has increased financial support for public universities from Rs. 10 billion in the previous fiscal year to Rs. 12 billion in the current budget.
The additional funding, he said, will be used to enhance teaching standards, strengthen research activities, and improve the overall quality of higher education across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
